Charlie's Is About
Great Ice Cream! Great Food! Great People! Great Prices!
Charlie’s has been the place to get ice cream in Sylvania since 1984. Charlie Niytray passed the “ice cream scoop” to Lisa Crosby, the new owner of Charlie’s in November 2015.
Charlie Niytray had been scooping up his homemade ice cream, hamburgers, homemade soups and more since he opened his ice cream store and restaurant in 1984 in Saxon Square. After more than 30 years, he decided there were other things he wanted to do, such as visiting his children in Texas, so his restaurant became available for sale.
Lisa Crosby, who had spent the last 35 years in the quick food service industry, did not want to work for other people anymore and, after working at Charlie’s for one month to see if this was something she would like to do, she purchased the restaurant.
Charlie’s is a cozy, friendly place where the staff know the customers by name and free WIFI is available along with convenient parking. The new outdoor patio allows customers to enjoy their ice cream or hamburger outside during the summer months. The food is great and features homemade Sautter’s beef burgers.
Future plans for Charlie’s will include “Charlie Day” where Charlie will be behind the counter to greet customers and specials for pet owners to bring in their dogs and cats to enjoy ice cream.
I was there today with some good friends and OMG the food and the ice cream and the service was all excellent will definitely

As the new owner of Charlie’s, Lisa intends to continue the Charlie’s Homemade Ice Cream & Edibles tradition. In November 2015 after 35 years in the quick food service industry, Lisa was looking for a new career and Charlie was looking to retire. Lisa doesn’t plan on making any major changes at Charlie’s and will continue to make all of the ice cream, pies, cakes, and soups following Charlie’s handwritten recipes. Since taking over, Lisa has added some new menu items and outdoor tables so customers can enjoy eating outdoors during the summer.
Lisa loves dogs. To show her love for our four-legged friends, all dogs get a free junior scoop of ice cream on the patio.
